Autobahn Road Trip

As said in the previous entry, as written by Tim and Melanie, Autobahn 3/24/2007 came and went and despite driving the 5 hours back the same night it was good times all around. Or at least it was for me, anyway.

Jessica, or Jesso, (founder of joytoykid.org)  came along with us and had a good time too. Unlike past Autobahns, the trip was more or less uneventful… except for the event itself, of course.

Now I am back in the office finally finished with Antiphonic’s first year of taxes and ready to get serious about adding about 210 new titles to the store of CDs and vinyl records.

Thank you to everyone that said hello at Autobahn. It’s always nice to meet new people as well as chat with the familar faces too. See you at the fall Autobahn, if they have it.

Autobahn Festival Roadtrip!

Tim’s Update: Beware of Falling Acronyms
We are heading south on  I 75 on our way to Wilmington to Java Joes for the annual Autobahn Music festival.

I am actually writing this blog entry using an internet connected laptop

It is delivering our map and GPS info as well as salving our boredom with internet.
You might say it is a IBM X24 with a USB GPS and a PCMCIA SprintPCS EVDO revA (Novetell Wireless S720)

or you could do like my sister-in-law and call it Tims “techno-clutter.”

For all of its techieness it hasn’t gotten us to the show any faster… but at least I am not Bored.

Melanie’s Update: Hooray for Roadtrips!
I think Tim’s sister-in-law had it right!  I spent the first part of the trip plugging in cords, wires, and various connectors, as well as dodging the GPS thing-a-ma-bob that kept flying off the dashboard.  Between the CDs we have in the back of the van and the handy-dandy laptop Tim has provided, I’m all for just taking the store on the road full time.  I’ve not cleared this idea with Kelson yet… but keep your eyes peeled, and you may spot the Antiphonic-Mobile coming to a town near you (if I have my way, anyways). Well kids, see you at Joe’s Java… IF we survive Kelson’s crazy driving!

The Update

Things have been crazy for me for the last month or so. We have been working hard at adding a digital downloads section to the store to sell independent artists’ mp3s for them and the job turned out to be quite a bit more work than expected!

I hired a programmer to help me with some of the more technical aspects of what we’ve been doing and I’ve had quite a bit of help with the legal side of things too. And at the same time I have been working full time on a project some friends of mine had going with a company they work for and between it and Antiphonic it’s all been adding up to 95 - 100 hours a week for me and it’s really worn me out. It’ll all be worth it in the long run though.

That temporary project has pretty much come to a close and I am going to use the money made to buy a ton of new music from Velvet Blue, Plastiq Musiq, and a large distributer to make up for the long silence of the store over the last month or so.

The digital download service has cost the company hundreds of dollars and all of us here at Antiphonic a few night’s sleep, and it hasn’t even been formally announced yet but I hope to be doing so very soon. Like… tomorrow. I am very excited for the potential of this project. My plans include the digital store as well as the continued growth of the CD store as well. And, of course, we’ll be at the next Autobahn Festival, as always. So we’ll see you there March 24th!

Happy New Year!

Welcome to the Antiblog – the online journal of the Antiphonic team, designed to give you (our customers and friends) a behind-the-scenes look at the magic, music, and occasional madness that makes up the Antiphonic Music Company.

Let’s meet the team, shall we?

God. Creator of the universe, Savior of mankind, Lord of heaven and earth… His resume is a little extensive to list here, and to be honest, He won’t really be posting in this journal at all, but since He’s the reason and inspiration for this whole company and all of the music we sell, it only seemed right to list Him as the head of the team.

Now onto everybody else:

You all know (or will soon know) Kelson. He’s the owner and manager of Antiphonic, and wears many different hats around the company. Yes folks, he does it all with a little help from the rest of the team… and a lot of caffeine. He’s the guy you’ll be hearing from the most, since he’s the man in charge around here. (That’s what we let him think anyways.)

Melanie – Antiphonic’s art designer, resident redhead, and Kelson’s right-hand gal. We turn to her when we need an artist’s eye for design or an extra pair of helping hands (or when Kelson runs out of coffee.)

Kevin – Audio clip ripping master and general office assistant. He and Kelson have known each other so long, they’re practically brothers.

Tim – Antiphonic’s computer and technology guru. Whenever you hear an “uh oh,” that’s Tim’s cue to come save the day. He’s also the guy who brings along music, donuts, and weird electronic gizmos when we take company road trips.

A few other staff members exist, but we’re not exactly sure what they do or who hired them. There’s a company-wide theory that they’re just here for the coffee and tunes. (We don’t let them post in this journal.)

And last but certainly not least – YOU! You may not be an employee, and you may not have a company t-shirt (hey wait, neither do we!) but you’re an important part of the Antiphonic team. We love hearing from you, so drop us a comment or two as you read. This journal will be also posted on our LiveJournal (www.livejournal.com/~antiphonic_blog) and in our mySpace profile (www.myspace.com/antiphonic) too. We would love to hear from you, so be sure to add us and keep in touch!

Happy New Year, and God bless!
